We meet together weekly to play and practise ukulele playing together. We started in 2023, picked a name, have grown rapidly in number and we have own teacher who thinks we are progressing very well! We are a friendly supportive group and members are encouraged to develop their skills at their own rate.. We have also started playing some local gigs which we all enjoy.
If you have some previous experience on the uke or wish to switch from a guitar, then get in touch about coming straight into the Misspent Ukes. If you are a complete beginner, then we offer a 6 week starter course a couple of times a year, again get in touch to find out more and to be put on the mailing list for the next course. Reading music is not a requirement as you will be taught how to read chord charts and we use popular songs (from 60's onwards) to develop our skills.
The basic equipment needed is your own uke, turner and music stand with the capabality to either print out the song sheets or display them on a tablet. You will get advice on where to buy and how not to spend a fortune.
New! Beginners Course starting on 27th February 2025.
We are also keen to encourage members who like to sing along, rather than play. Please see our entry under "Singing for Pleasure"
Misspent Ukes is run jointly with Dene Valley u3a, and we have members from a number of different local u3a groups. ,
Give it a go! We're a very welcoming group who know that the tea and refreshments are as important as the rest of the session
The picture below shows some of our group at a recent gig, they're concentrating but having a really good time.
