How the Shipston u3a operates
The Shipston on Stour Area u3a is a Charity (Number 1170969) which is managed through an elected volunteer Committee. The Committee meets six times a year to review current and planned activities and events, Policies and Financial matters.
Fundamentally our u3a works well because of the dedication of the excellent people who get involved. We have committed Interest Group leaders and we have a range of enthusiastic volunteers who give their time in small or large measure to make all the details of this voluntary organisation work.
We have recently changed the way in which the Committee works. Find out more about the Committee and our Way of Working here. Recent Minutes of Committee meetings are available to view her
Volunteering to help run the Shipston Area u3a
Having people who are prepared to serve on the Committee is essential to our continuing to be a u3a. People are restricted, under the Constitution, to only serve for a limited period of time, so finding new volunteers is vital. There are a couple of vacancies now and more will come up next year.
If you enjoy and value the work of the u3a, and would be prepared to give a limited amount of time to help run our organisation, or would be interested to find out more, please get in touch with us soon and we will talk things over an potentially find an appropriate job for you to do.
Please help us to continue to make the u3a in the Shipston area a success and to build on our past achievements.
If you would be prepared to help manage the u3a or contribute to the running of a Group, please contact the Secretary or the Membership Secretary.

NATIONAL u3a
The u3a movement, which is supported by The Third Age Trust, is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through more than 1000 local independent u3as, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. There are well over 430,000 members nationally. Membership of a u3a is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full time employment has ceased.
The members in local u3as all across the UK come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery. Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.
Each u3a is run entirely by volunteers and draws upon the knowledge, experience and skills of its own members to organise and provide interest groups and activities in accordance with the wishes of the local membership.
