The Shipston on Stour Area u3a is a Charity (Number 1170969) which is managed through an elected volunteer Committee. The Committee meets six times a year to review current and planned activities and events, Policies and Financial matters.

Fundamentally our u3a works well because of the dedication of the excellent people who get involved. We have committed Interest Group leaders and we have a range of enthusiastic volunteers who give their time in small or large measure to make all the details of this voluntary organisation work.

Without these volunteers we would not be able to have the range of groups and the variety of excellent Monthly Meetings and other events which characterise our u3a.

We have recently improved how we organise how all the parts work together. This new way of working gives named individuals responsibility for managing specific parts of our activities such as Membership, Communications, the Monthly Meeting and Interest Groups. People have clear roles and have budgets and authority to make things happen.

The Committee tries to support the work of these individuals and the other volunteers so that things run smoothly. As a Charity.  we are required to ensure that people are looked after and that we do things safely and responsibly. The Trustees meet 6 time a year, usually for a couple of hours. We get a lot of help from our mother Charity – the Third Age Trust – which provides support advice and resources.

Having people who are prepared to serve on the Committee is essential to our continuing to be a u3a. People are restricted, under the Constitution, to only serve for a limited period of time, so finding new volunteers is vital. There are a couple of vacancies now and more will come up next year.
